Mp3 versus CD quality (or lossless)…what’s the big deal?
Well, it’s like the difference between watching a film on youtube compared to blu ray or DVD quality…the mp3 compression algorithm gets rid of bits of audio information from the CD quality audio in order to make to files really small. Those little bits aren’t recoverable once they’re gone – you can’t uncompress an mp3 – so you’re stuck with lower quality audio.
When most people download audio onto their ipod or mp3 player, they are getting a
compressed format, not high quality CD audio. That’s why we’re giving away the
mp3 versions. That’s right, take them legally for free, if you’re happy to listen
to lower quality audio.
We recommend that if you want to hear the album with all its detail intact, that
you buy either the CD, or the FLAC or Apple lossless formats to load straight
onto your ipod or computer.
Why are we giving it away? Because we can't stop people downloading it illegally, and people who really love the music will most probably buy it and support us anyway. And while the most important thing is that you hear the music, please do buy it if you like it - we really need your support
